Making a delicious, tahini-free hummus is simple and healthy for the whole family. Many people are steering clear of tahini, due to its high calorie and fat content. Although the fat content of tahini is high, only about 10% of that fat is saturated. I believe that if you are on a diet to lose weight, then you may prefer to make a hummus that is free of tahini. With this simple recipe, you can create a heart-healthy, guilt-free hummus, for dipping your favorite veggies, or spreading on your favorite sandwiches.
- 2 cup dried chickpeas
- 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 1/4 cup veggie stock (not shown)
- 1/4 cup H20 (not shown)
- 2 tablespoons Bragg Liquid Aminos
- 1/2 red or orange bell pepper
(I used part orange, part red)
- tomato and kale for garnish (optional)
Pour all ingredients (except for H20) into your Vitamix blender. Blend on high, adding water as necessary until you reach your desired consistency.
That’s it, you’re ready to eat! Simply spread it on bread with roasted veggies to make a delicious and healthy vegetable sandwich. You could also present it at a party for dipping carrots, kale chips, baked pita bread, celery, cucumber, broccoli, or cauliflower. Add the diced tomato and kale to make it look fancy!
