Evelin Runs: Story of a Successful Runner

Let me start with a quick story about running

Back in August of 2011, I decided to get back into shape and start running again – I had taken some time off – 7 years to be exact.  I wasn’t trying to run 5ks, half-marathons, or marathons; I didn’t want to compete at all.  All I was interested in was getting into shape (a slim one) and regaining the serenity I once achieved from running.  Within a few weeks, I was not only back into running, but I had taken it to a new level.

I began running 5 days a week, putting in about 10-12 miles a week.  After a few months, I wondered if I could go even farther… and faster.  I set out on a plan, increasing my mileage by 15% each week.  Before I knew it, I was running half-marathon distances.  This was all extremely amazing (and exciting) to me.  Here I was, a guy who had just been smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, eating desserts like they were going out of style, and drinking like a fish.

It’s amazing the transformation that takes place when we put in a little effort.  I have gone on to run two 5ks, 2 half-marathons, and a full-marathon.  And, I don’t plan on stopping; this is just the beginning!Running has completely changed my life.  I went from a person with no motivation, self-esteem, or health, to someone who believes in himself, has compassion for others, and cares more about his health than the car he drives.

If there is ever the chance for me to help another person in getting started running, or guide them to better health, I don’t want to miss it.  This is getting me to my point (I promise). So in February I got this bright idea.  How about I help others through a website, blog, or some other sort of social media?  How would I do this?  Where would I start? Well, I am an IT student, so that helps.  But, I had no idea what a blog even looked like.

Introducing Evelin Runs

Thanks to Google, I was pointed in the right direction.  I searched for “Best Running Blogs” or something to that effect.   One of the first blogs that I came to was Evelinruns.  This chick is all about some running, and she has inspired me to create my blog and stay motivated through the challenges that I face out on the pavement.  I could go on and on, but let me let her introduce herself,

“Here I am. My name won’t be very hard to figure out thinking of the name of the blog, but I’ll introduce myself anyways – I’m Evelin. You might think that the spelling is a little bit odd, but there’s an explanation to it. You see, I am a little bit odd.. And also (mainly), I’m not from the US. I’m half Norwegian/half Swedish and I just recently moved to the US.

I live with husband C and a giant cat named Oscar in Hawaii, The Big Island. Since the move over here in June 2012 I’ve grown to really like it here. Coming from a place far up north with long dark winters I’ve always been a sun junkie and tend to take every chance I get to soak it up. It’s easy here in Hawaii. And it’s also really beautiful and there’s a friendly warm community to be a part of here.

I started this blog after falling madly in love with running. I actually first started a twitter account but quickly realized that I’d like to write more about running then what Twitter would let me so WordPress was my next step. As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, I blog mainly about running but there’s times when life takes me on trips which I just can’t stay away from mentioning here.”

Awesome stuff, huh?  By following her blog, I have learned to grow this community, which I now refer to as Forks to Feet.  [Thank you Evelin for the inspiration!]  She continues to amaze me with her dedication to running, hard work put into her blog, and loyalty to her readers.  She provides reviews on everything from Huma Chia Energy Gels and Skora Running Shoes to Injinji Toe Socks (I just won a pair)!

If your’e a runner, send her a tweet @evelinruns ; she’ll get you pumped up!  Show her page some love today and get lost in the world of running.  You can also follow her on BlogLovin and Facebook. Have you met someone who inspired you to do something?  Did you follow through? Or let the dream fade?
