Runner of the Week Anna

Runner of the Week Anna

I’m more than thrilled to introduce to you a vegan triathlete friend of mine from Bradford, Pennsylvania. Anna (Herbivore Triathlete) is the perfect example of an athlete who’s used plant-based nutrition to excel in all that she does!

“I am a multisport endurance athlete and I follow a plant based diet. I compete in both trail and road races from 5K to half marathon distances. I am passionate about all things fitness but get most excited about triathlons, spinning, and running.”

What got you interested in running?

It was a challenge that I felt would push me to become a better athlete. I felt that it was a sport that I can always improve at or challenge myself with, whether that’s time or distance.

Is there anything that sets you apart from other runners?

I follow a strict plant-based diet. I have a background in track, not endurance sports. I also cross train; spin, bike, strength, swim, triathlon.

What keeps you motivated?

The internal drive to always challenge myself and improve.

Do you have a favorite race length?

5k

If you could run with anyone (living/dead), who would it be?

Brendan Brazier.

What is your all-time favorite race? Why?

Dirty Duathlon; because I get to race on technical trails and my husband races the mountain bike portion.

Do you have a favorite pre-race food?

ENERGYbits! Plus a banana and coffee.

Post-race food?

Smoothie made with Vega One.

What piece of running gear could you not possibly live without?

Headband, hair tie, visor, anything to keep my hair out of my face!

What do you tell yourself when you are struggling?

That my body can keep going even if my mind is saying that I can’t. I chant, “just keep moving forward, don’t stop” in my mead.

Do you have any current goals? Races?

My next big goal is to move up to the Olympic distance triathlon. I’ve got some winter running road races planned.

What advice would you give to someone who’s new to running?

Give running a chance! It gets easier.

What is your blog?

It’s the Herbivore Triathlete I started this blog as a way to share what I’ve learned about health, fitness, and nutrition over the past year. If it helps even one person, than I will have succeeded.

Where can we find you on social media?
